Ruth Troyer was 9 years old when this poem was published in the “Circle of Young Canada” section of the Toronto Globe. The illustration was contributed by “Yetta” (Yetta Bernstein), whose own poem, “The Elves” appears on page 90, again with one of her illustrations.

Chalmers Melissa Borrowman illustrated a number of pages of Creative Young Canada, signing her illustrations “Mélisse.” Here is her poetic contribution, with her own illustration as well as one by “Beldra” (Margaret Peake Benton ).

“Dream Thoroughfare,” by Margaret Louise Steven

This block print by “Reo” reflects both the current Christmas season and the decade of its creation. The accompanying poem on the facing page, “Dream Thoroughfare,” may have less to do with Christmas, but still is till delightful.

“The Holly and the Ivy,” by RH Grenville

This poem was sent by “RH Grenville” (Bea Rowley) to her step-son, Charles Rowley, for Christmas of 2005. Today, he sent me an email with wishes from his step-mother, who still lives quietly in Victoria, BC, and a note reminding me that ” this would be an appropriate time for her poem ‘The Holly and the Ivy’.”  So right!

A note at the bottom of the page says “publication pending,” but I am not sure where it was first printed. Here it is for all, again.  Merry Christmas!
